This page attempts to highlight one of my
favorite passages from the book of Philippians, the ancient
"Hymn
of Christ", in the UBS5
original Greek, a literal interlinear
translation of the Greek text, the English
translation by Bill Mounce, and
finally some matching images from the Codex
Sinaiticus -- a manuscript of the Christian Bible
written in the middle of the fourth century, which contains
the earliest complete copy of the Christian New Testament! |
Philippians 2:5-11 (UBS5/Interlinear/Mounce) |
ὃ καὶ ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ, This let mind be in you which also
in Christ Your
attitude toward
one another should be the same
as that
of Christ
Jesus ὃς
θεῷ, who
is [the] form of God existing not something to be
grasped considered to be equal with God
who, although he was in the form of
God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be
Himself emptied [the] form of a servant having taken
in [the] likeness of men having been made but emptied himself, taking on the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of man. And being found in the appearance as a man ἐταπείνωσεν
He
humbled Himself having become obedient unto death
[the] death even of [the] cross he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross!
ὄνομα, Therefore
also God Him highly exalted and granted to Him the
name above every name Therefore, God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, ἵνα ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι
καταχθονίων that
at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in the
heavens and on earth and under the earth so that at the name of Jesus every
knee should bow, in heaven, and on earth and under
the earth, καὶ
every tongue should confess that [is] Lord Jesus
Christ to [the] glory of God [the] Father and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ in Lord, to the glory of God the Father. |
